Breast Augmentation Surgery Prices and Doctors

breast augmentationThe cost of a breast augmentation surgery, commonly called a boob job, varies widely depending on the type of implant, the placement of the implant, the incision and the location of the surgeon.  Surgery tends to be more expensive on the West and East Coasts.  Silicone is more expensive than saline, and submuscular placement is more expensive than subglandular.

Overall, you can expect to pay anywhere between $3500 and $8500, with most surgeries being around the $5000 mark.

So how do you choose a surgeon?  Well, obviously you could flip open the Yellow Pages or hit Google, but that’s really not how I would recommend doing it.  I mean, anyone can buy an ad, right?

The first thing I believe you should do is ask around.  Of course, this may not always be possible, but if you can, you should.  I’m not suggesting you stop strangers on the street and ask if their boobs are fake and where they got them done (although I’ve done it myself a few times!).

Here’s a little secret I’ll let you in on…I asked my stylist.

I mean, think about it…women tell their stylists everything.  I asked mine if she knew any good plastic surgeons and discovered a gold mine.  It turned out she’s a breast cancer survivor and has implants herself, so there was one good recommendation.  She then offered to ask some of her clients and email me the results.  I ended up with four solid recommendations (each had more than one reference) to work with.

The other thing you absolutely must do is check out the Society of Plastic Surgeons in your country.  Members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons are certified by either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Their website can provide a list of surgeons in your area.

You should go and talk to at least a couple of surgeons to find one you like and are comfortable with.  This is a big decision that you’ll be living with for the rest of your life and not one to be taken lightly.  The surgeon will discuss all of your implant options and help make a decision based on what’s best for you.

Make sure you look at lots of your surgeon’s before and after pictures, and ask for references you can call.

The final thought I will leave you with on choosing a surgeon is this…please please please don’t just pick the cheapest one you can find!  You’ll be living with your new boobs for a long time, and it’s really not something you should cheap out on.  If it means waiting an extra year to save up some more money, do it!
